Server Management - Traffic Shaping Engine

Server Management - Traffic Shaping Engine
Description

Traffic Shaping Engine ( TSE ) NLM runs on NetWare 4.xx, 5.x, and 6.x servers to manage server bandwidth and provide traffic shaping capabilities to the NetWare OS. The TSE is NOT another monitoring system, it operates at wire speed to actively manage bandwidth and cures all sorts of LAN / WAN / Internet bandwidth problems, including excessive file downloads, by allowing you to limit, prioritize, reserve, monitor, and audit bandwidth consumption. The TSE manages traffic passing through or generated by the server, and so manages the traffic of Border Manager, GroupWise, web servers, or any other NetWare base service. The TSE performs high speed, rule based, scans of traffic to select and manage desired traffic. The TSE features DiffServ / TOS tagging, Priority Queuing, Filtering, Rate Limiting, Threshold driven Rates, and Quotas.

The Traffic Shaping Engine can be used to manage both Internet and LAN bandwidth, IPX and IP traffic, and apply data rates to up to 8,000,000 simultaneous connections. It is also a verastile toolkit to perform complex filtering, programmable packet capture, and even create "penalty boxes" for workstations sending prohibited traffic. The Traffic Shaping Engine requires very little memory and imposes negligible overhead. This traffic shaper can be used on older servers and even the slowest Pentium is capable of managing >> T1 speed connections. A simple, efficient bandwidth management solution for Novell shops. The TSE is also a great add-on for Novell Small Business Suite.

If you use Border Manager, Novell's web servers, iPrint, iFolder, Novell Internet Messaging System, Netscape Enterprise Server, Apache on NetWare, NIAS, or GroupWise WebAccess, and any other NetWare based service, why not add bandwidth management capabilities as well? Its easy, its inexpensive, and it works!
Features of Traffic Shaping Engine 3.2.0:

* Rule based filtering, forwarding, auditing, capture and rate shaping of IP or IPX traffic
* Limit total bandwidth in / out of an interface, network, IP address range, or any complex criteria
* Apply data rates to specific types of traffic based on UDP or TCP port ranges
* Implement priority queuing to optimize WAN / ISP usage
* Apply DiffServ / TOS tags for IP traffic, integrating NetWare with DiffServ capable routers / switches
* Use inbound DiffServ / TOS to prioritize traffic
* Limit total concurrent connections to a given host, network, UDP or TCP port
* Apply connection or workstation oriented rates and quotas
* Use tables to implement quotas or apply rates to arbitrary lists of ports, addresses, networks
* Apply fixed and variable latency for WAN / satWAN emulation
* Monitor and log usage with the Connection Audit feature
* Works with Border Manager, NIAS, Web Servers, and any other NetWare based service
* Scales to a million simultaneous connections, really.
* Still the worlds fastest software based solution, and the ONLY solution that runs on NetWare
* Can be packaged into the worlds smallest 3 interface traffic using single board computers
* Identifies NDS objects for audit logs and web status when using MAC2USER
* Packet Capture compatible with Ethereal Ethereal Protocol Analyzer
* Flexible and programmable Advanced Queue Management ( AQM ) features
* TSE API programming interface for 3rd party developers - In Progress.
* TSE Event Callback System for Developers - In Progress.
* Improved Stochastic Priority Queue processes more packets quicker
* Per Connection Actions. Each flow can be programmed to take any rule action.
* QoS Sharing Between Multiple Connections with Aging
* Improved Web Status Page
* Fixes to numerous minor issues from previous releases
* Full SMP support under Netware 4.2 and higher
* Tested with > 8,000,000 simultaneous connection entries

The TSE is useful for virtually any application where you need to limit, monitor, or filter the flow of network traffic. Rate driven thresholds allow you to accommodate traffic bursts while managing long term high volume connections. Extremely simple TSE configurations effectively impose download quotas for hyperactive downloaders, while not punishing the average user. You can kiss headaches like MP3's, game demos, and movie trailers good-bye.
