Features:

Developed by the company that has been providing relational database development services to Fortune 100 companies since 1988 - Supports database transactions - Insert data into multiple related tables within a single transaction - Designate one or more recipient addresses, messages to which will contain XML content you wish to process - Connects to any database with an available JDBC driver (or ODBC driver with Sun's JdbcOdbc Bridge - included with Sun's Java JDK) - Errors delivered via e-mail - Accept messages with XML content from any Extensible Messaging Platform source portal or portal type - Verification of XML content against database table structure before attempting insertion - Basic license supports the simultaneous operation of up to 15 XMLdb destination portals, each independently processing XML and capable of inserting the data into a separate database Typical Applications: Web form processing, e-commerce, EDI, data exchange.

XML is one of the most exciting technologies to arrive on the scene in years. XML allows for the representation of structured, related data in an application independent way. By formatting transactional e-commerce data as text-based XML and including it in the body of a normal e-mail message, we can easily move the data across the Internet. When the XML carrying e-mail message reaches its destination, the data, including the relational data structures themselves, can be clearly seen and understood by the human eye. But the XML can also be parsed by a software application such as the XMLdb portal for further processing and delivery.

The XMLdb Portal is a POP3 Gateway/Extensible Messaging Platform destination portal plug-in. Its function is to extract the XML content from e-mail messages that have entered the Extensible Messaging Platform through any source portal (such as from an ISP POP account through the default POP3 source portal). The XMLdb portal will then extract the XML from the carrier message and determine how to correctly insert the data into your organization's database. It will verify the XML against the database's table structure and will then insert the data into the database.

Because the XMLdb portal is a POP3 Gateway portal plug-in, it is operating system independent and will run on any operating system that supports Extensible Messaging Platform. The e-mail message integrity features of POP3 Gateway are also protecting the integrity of your XML transaction throughout the e-mail message path.
